Treasury Dept. Expected to Delay Enforcement of UIGEA 6 Months

27 November, 2009

So that oppressive law with the long-winded name (UIGEA for short) that will officially let the punishing begin of online poker operators still serving U.S. customers, is a little further at bay than it had been a moment ago. Reports have been coming out left and right that the U.S. Treasury Dept. plans to delay the intended Dec. 1 deadline that poker operators had to tweak their systems to comply with these demands (namely to make sure its software didn’t let a U.S. payer slip through).

This is probably in large part due to the delay in voting on the many bills facing congress right now that would either countermand the UIGEA or make it moot. So, in other words, the Treasury Dept. wants to save itself a lot of trouble and potential lawsuits by giving it 6 more months to see if Congress makes it legal to play online poker in the U.S. again.

Tom “Durrrr” Dwan Poses New, Offline, Heads-Up Challenge: Ilari Sahamies Accepts

11 November, 2009

Newest member of Team Full Tilt, the home of the best poker bonus online, the team of poker professionals representing Full Tilt Poker, Tom Dwan, made big headlines online and off with his highly publicized Durrrr Challenge, a 50,000-hand contest with a $1 million prize (which is only halfway through now, with the opponent being Patrik Antonius). Well now he’s just pulled another similar publicity stunt…we mean – posed another challenge to poker community.

This one is for $500,000 and will take place in London with, among other notable poker celebrities sure to turn out to try to take a bite out of Tom Dwan’s ego, Ilari Sahamies reportedly confirmed to be competing. It’s a heads-up challenge, though, like the $1 million challenge, and so each challenger will have to wait his, or her, turn.

The rules of this challenge are that the challenger (in other words, not Dwan) gets to pick what game they’ll play (Sahamies will probably pick PLO, even though it’s one of Dwan’s strong suits too), and that they can’t break until at least 500 hands are played, or the $500,000 minimum buy-in has been lost.

Full Tilt Poker is home to these great fun challenges as well as one of the best poker bonuses available to online players today.
